Why aren't medium scale basses (32") more popular?

MIJ domestic market Aerodyne jazz bass. 32" scale, and only 8lbs.

Concerning string choice with 32 scale i hope there are more choices coming soon but i happened upon an Aria 32 scale decades ago a 2 humbucker J style pickup arrangement, i installed RWs no problem.

It has a bright tone overall not thuddy at all, much closer to a 34 scale than a 30.....well, i happened to have a partial set of Fender 9050 flats missing the E....so knowing i have plenty of RW E strings, i found the 9050s A D G fit the bass perfectly as its 4 on a side tuners.

With the Fender flats it is still a fairly bright sounding bass and the RW E matches the 9050 flat A D G strings surprisingly fine tonally...i do have a semi parametric EQ on my Eden Metro and i can get a big variety of tones with CAREFUL EQ adjustment, this is the key imo

However i would like to try something like GHS Precision flats to see how much 'thump' i can get.... but i also use various foam mutes that i cut myself so i can get enough thump with the right foam mute.

Still this 32 scale Aria is more in the J bass territory tonally but i do like the tension with the 9050s which are fairly stiff and the outstanding neck allows very low action, a huge plus in my book...bottom line EQ is important....thought i would share.

Yeah, strings are critical and sometimes problematic. I tried a Warwick 32" 5er which sounded pretty nice, but i returned when i realised there were no suitable aftermarket flats available.
As it happens TI flats, which are sold as 'short scale' are a little too long on the E for a 30", but perfect for a 32".

I just read Jame's Arness's (AKA MartialDylan) post and I'm still laughing. I think he's being facetious because everyone knows you can't hear bass when drinking beer, only tequila gives you special powers. LMAO.

You can’t hear people when drinking beer, either. That explains why people get louder while drinking beer!

:roflmao:
