It’s a little ‘boomy’ or microphonic, the tone is not bad but can be improved.

I’ll try the flatwounds or half wounds if I find. I have $200 to spend on PU’s and have a pro tech to install for fair price... How much dif does the string retainer make, seems a upgrade is not costly? Thanks

Thanks ECE, What PU’s are most affordable/ I like the basic vintage ‘Motown’ sound and looked at the Fender vintage or I like Bartolini’s. I’ve also looked at Hi-mass 5 string bridges but have not found a direct replacement?

What are the best ways to upgrade this model... Bridge, nut, PU’s, strings?
