    Practicing!

    Practice your scales... everywhere on the neck. Metronomes help. Improvise within the scales. Bass is all about intervals. If you can learn where the intervals are in any given key, you can walk all over the fretboard.

    I did, and I'm waiting to hear back. He works with brass, though, and I need a more silver-like finish to match the existing hardware. If he answers I'll find out if he can do it.

    Lots of good resources here, thanks... and I've used Google plenty, but I still can't find a chrome guard. Also got an email back from Jeremiah Lasslett at Sharp Concepts that said 'No, sorry we do not chrome anything that we fabricate as chrome is conductive to steel.' I guess I don't see...

    Dull E string woes

    On my Geddy Lee J, the low E string always seems dull and dead compared to the rest of the strings. If I play the A string, it's got a nice bite. If I transpose the same note to E string, it's noticeably different. It's consistent no matter what kind of string I use and regardless of the pickup...

    How Many Times Do You Wind Strings Around Tuning Post?

    I'm not sure the number of wraps really matters as much as whether you are careful not to overlap on the post, which is more likely to cause tuning issues. My personal preference is to leave about 6-7 inches past the tuning machine, snip it, and fit the end down into the post (on my Fenders)...
