    How Fast Can You Play?

I think he may be misenterpreting his speed IMO. If he means that for every beat at 120 BPM, he can play 32 notes I need to see it to believe it for it sounds absolutely impossible. If he said 120 BPM subdivided into fourth notes, then that's plausible, I can play that fast.

    How Fast Can You Play?

If that's how you have interpreted it, then that's cool. I also think shredding for the sake of shredding is a bad thing. I understood his question as being one about speed alone. Well of course. I was just momentarily curious, is all.

    How Fast Can You Play?

I really don't care about that, I can be a prick if I want to, but at least I would try to answer the question at hand. Secondly, can you honestly tell me that EVERY person enlisted on this forum has the same musical background as the next poster? Such as, maybe the OP hasn't the education...

    How Fast Can You Play?

I like it how whenever a question like this ever comes up on this board, the typical answer is always 'bass playing shouldn't be about speed blah blah blah'. Instead of giving vague answers, maybe it will be more helpful to impressionable bassists for them to receive a more direct answer? I...

Question about playing Metal on bass

Actually, loads of black metal bands play in standard. Stuff like Watain, Dissection, Abigor, etc. I think even Dimmu Borgir has stuff in standard E. Remember, tuning down =/= heaviness.

    intensive practicing

Just think of it in the same way that you would with weight training. It wouldn't be recommended to work more sets on a pair of muscles that are already recovering. I'm afraid I don't know Angra, but Sonata Artica has a pretty good bassist as far I remember. Death material is definitely good...

    intensive practicing

I had the same problem, I would spend a max of three hours of practicing fretting and picking technique in an effort to match the speed of my favorite metal bands. Having pain was inevitable. I found the best thing is that when you feel tired, just sit down and listen to a song or two, wait...

If you could start all over again...

I wouldn't learn songs as much, but focus more on practicing scales/chords/arpeggios as well as honing my picking technique with 2-3 fingers. I wouldn't use a pick either, and also would emphasize tone over speed. Lastly, learning to just let go and improvise.

    Crazy Chops to Killin' groove

Voted groove. But what about a groove that is a crazy chop? :D

To Tip or not to Tip?

When I'm playing over one string, I normally use the tips. But when I'm skimming over multiple strings, I regularly bar down my fleshy part to hit a note on the higher string.

Standard B Tuning - Light strings?

Ok, thanks for everyones advice. I will probably end up getting a 5 string set and just apply to my 4 string.

Standard B Tuning - Light strings?

NOTE: Didn't know where to post this. Mods, feel free to move this if need be. I am wanting to get my 4 strings bass tuned to standard B. I went to the shop to get some advice and perhaps a price for a setup if needed to accommodate lower tuning. When I asked what gauge of strings are...

    Playing with a strap

My bass is really light especially since it doesn't have active pickups. When I am plucking a lot I notice that the bass actually sways a little bit (by a mm tbh) making it harder for the fingers to reach its target. Thats why practicing while sitting is a lot easier, since bass is also being...

    ANOTHER metal technique question
