Yeah and the OP had a P bass, which isn't exactly known for it's bright singing tones. Sounds like the engineer was a total numpty.

From what I've experienced getting people who have only played four string basses to try my five string bass, not knowing the notes on the B string instantly puts them in a mindset of "It ain't familiar!" and they're already against it because its taken them a little out of their comfort zone...

I'm monumentally curious as to what his thought process was, I can't imagine that would have sounded good no matter where he was standing. It sounds like he's never done sound on actual instruments or something, do you know how much experience he has as a sound engineer?
