    Recommend a compressor

As I'm getting deeper into bass, I need a better tone-shaping solution for my recordings. I'd been running my bass through an active DI, into interface, then using Logic's multiband compressor and amp sim. It's OK, but not as rich as I want. Therefore, I'd like to get a nice analog outboard...

'70s Jazz Bass vs American Special Jazz Bass vs MIM Jazz Bass

$1000? Get an American Standard Jazz Bass and be done with it!

Graphite bars or Quartersawn? Which is better?

I have a graphite rod MIA jazz bass. It simply isn't bowing, unlike the Squier and the MIM basses I had.

Is it wrong to play my P Bass with my 'acoustic' trio?

I think an electric bass with an acoustic ensemble is a fantastic idea. It just fills out the sound so much better than an acoustic guitar-styled bass.

    NYC Guitar and bass stores?

Welcome in advance to my fine city! I can't speak for Manhattan, but if you can make it to Brooklyn, I highly recommend Main Drag Music. It's just one stop into Brooklyn from Manhattan on the subway, so it's not far. Great collection of nothing but vintage basses. Also, Southside Guitars is...

    Need a new backup bass

I, too, bought into the Squier hype. It didn't work out for me. If it were me, I'd just use one bass for everything. So, I'd suggest you just use your precision bass for rehearsals too. But if you really want a total beater bass you can smash up and leave at crappy rehearsal studios and not...

will the TSA pay attention to my note?

Can you perhaps ship it ahead of you? Like, ship it to your hotel.

Are premium priced basses worth the extra money?

That's because there are more people with Squier guitars than boutique guitars. People buy budget guitars to save money. If Squiers were $1500, they'd not have the rabid fanbase that they do by selling guitars for $200. And people want other people to support and rationalize their purchasing...

Are premium priced basses worth the extra money?

I recently went from Squier to MIM to MIA, and I experienced huge leaps in quality as I got to the MIA. Yes, all these basses can play the same notes. You gotta decide where your own comfortable price point is.

    NBD; Flame Maple Fender

Awesome! I recently had a LPB MIM Jazz and it was really superb.

Fender American Std Jazz or G&L JB-2

I own the same MIA Jazz, and it's fantastic. Plays like butter, and I did some detailed direct recording to analyze the pickups-- they're unreal! So articulate and growls.

    Maple vs. Rosewood fretboard

I firmly believe that fretboard wood is purely cosmetic. I prefer glossed maple on my Fender instruments, and rosewood on my Gibson instruments.

Jazz Bass Comparisons @ GC Today. Another Squier Convert.

I've recently been down this road, and for the life of me I simply cannot fathom how Squier can be concluded to be superior to fender MIA. I honest to God can't comprehend it, in my experience. It's like saying a McRib is better than a finely prepared rack of ribs. Maybe it's a cost thing, idk.
