OK, we all have our GC horror stories, especially those about some of the atrocious or fraudulent used gear they are duped into buying in. It goes like this: Said gear is often not as described by the customer trading in. Once this is brought to their attention, they choose to continue to list the gear exactly as it was misrepresented to them by the scamster who traded it in.

Many of us will remember the case of JT's Ritter being counterfeited and sold for thousands.

There are Warwick Rockbasses traded in as the real deal and asking absurd prices (see item 110693885).

I have several horror stories of my own to but this isn't about me, this is about these guys at GC that keep getting duped by unscrupulous customers and then try to pass on the favor!

Anyway, to the point of this post, I called the store in Greensboro, NC listing this "used CT" for $549 because even when you see something that is too good to be true, curiosity gets the better of you.

So Chuck in guitars answers the phone and I say "Hi I am inquiring about a used bass in your store."

He replies, "I am a mind reader so let me guess- the Carl Thompson."

So I ask if it really is a CT. He says that it is and it is "an Alembic Copy he made."

He offers to send a picture and I accept his offer but then add, "If this is really a CT, shouldn't I put a down payment on the bass so as not to lose it?"

He replies as if to signal something to me, "Well, let me send you the picture and we can take it from there."

And here is the picture:

makes no sence.. then they waste manhours and shipping costs as anyone who really wants a Thompson will clearly return it.

I don't think it's fraud as much as it's incompetence.

I believe they got duped on a trade in and then made the choice to use the same story that they were told. The salesman was communicating that to me in thr tone and cadence of his voice. It was pretty clear.
