.Just got this on Tuesday, my arthritis was making even my birdsong too tough to play. My main gigging bass for the past year has been a kala cali 5 string, I think this is going to take its place. Marleaux consat sopran tuned standard rather than piccolo. Experimenting with strings still, the BEAD flats on it are a little too stiff, labella 1954 set arriving tomorrow. I can't wait for tomorrow night's gig!
I should mention that the birdsong went for this bass in trade, with happy recipients on each end.

Now THAT is a SHORTSCALE!!!!! WOW! I like it! I don't wanna say "cute" but it looks like a real bass in miniature! Smashing!
Just got my Bronco back from the techy. He wired it up V/V/T.
Two Red Lace sensors in it now.
He replaced both pots with new 250k.
Told me that one of the old pots was a little "off" and didn't sound right. Asked why and was informed " probably the last time it got worked on, there was too much heat and the soldering gun did a bit of a job on it internally".
Well...that must have been me . I was the last person to solder a pickup in it. I used a normal small soldering gun. Was told "hell no! that's too hot!"..Showed me the gun he uses and said it has a specific heat range. Apparently excessive heat is not good for pots.
When I put the pickup in myself it did actually sound a little "off" at certain times. More like a Squier Bronchitis than a Bronco.
Sounds awesome now.
Going to get 3 matching knobs next time down to the bass store. Knobs on it now are just temporary.

From tonight's wedding gig - my first gig on my marleaux consat sopran, strung in standard tuning rather than piccolo. The strings are DR neon, which were on the bass when I got it in trade, and I have labella flats waiting, but I'm liking these DR strings and I think I may wait on the flats until I can afford to replace the guitar tuners with bass tuners (I think sperzel locking tuners will be great on this). Anyway, here it be, just filmed with my iPhone sitting on my synth, but you can hear the bass. I tend to not be too loud onstage and I use in ears, but it's audible.
Epiphone Allen Woody.... Now loaded with La Bella black tape wounds... only been two days but... like the way it feels, weighs, sounds (so far... set up will be officially accomplished Tuesday)No pic, no short scale bass. Whatcha got?

Next project. Warmoth Jazzmaster body & pickguard. DC Kunkle 28 1/2" baritone neck drilled for 4 Ultralites. kellingsound electronics, GFS Lipstick Humbuckers, Schaller 3D-4 bridge, brass nut. Finishing with aniline dyes and probably a polyurethane top coat.

Sounds just fine for me... I like the Motown background sound (MISTER Jamerson) & my current physical limitations (recent neck/spine surgery) make this a joy to play & enjoy... (currently through an older Peavey KB 100 or 300... depending on which room I'm in)... thanks for the support.
Just arrive....My 3rd Short scale. I have a Gibson SG and 2 Kiesel Vader short scale. This one has the single coil p/u's. My other has the Humbuckers.
Hey, y'all. My shorty just arrived this past weekend. It's a '65 Framus Strato Star, just like the one I learned on. This one has a Hofner tailpiece, though, which is interesting. Looks like the headstock was repaired as well, but it's solid. Sounds awesome!
Also, I used to own a Kasuga EB-3, but wasn't crazy about the sound, so I sold it. I'd thought pulling out the mudbucker and bridge PU and installing a P-bass PU and cutting a new pickguard, but I didn't have the time or equipment for it. I actually kind of regret selling it, now that I look at it. It would have been worth hanging on to.
I also had a Squier Jaguar shorty bass that I got (I like to think of it as "rescued") from a Pawn America, where some goofball tried to put guitar strings on it...flourescent ones, no less. So I fixed it up, but again, I wasn't crazy about the sound, so I sold it.
Anyway, those are my short-scale stories. Number?
