Very nice considering the work you put into it. The white primer idea is something I learned too. Refinish is a hard process for those of us that have a tendency to run out of patience.

What I learned is to have deep respect for luthiers on how much work they have to put in preparation before finishing off. Another lesson learned is how much cheap sandpaper sucks. Now I get it why pros invest there. Saves you so much headache in the further process.
I am pretty sure that in the coming years the joy will glorify the work put into that bass as the "good old times".
UPDATE:FYI (I don't recall if I posted here or elsewhere) Pyramid strings will custom make you shorter versions of their strings if you go to the website and fill out the form. I'm waiting for a custom set of Pyramid Gold flatwounds (like Sir Paul played on his Hofner) for my short scale Samick bass.
Here's the part I think is funny: back about the turn of the century when I purchased that bass, it was on sale for $69. After playing it for less than a year, I decided to take the plunge and get my first ever set of flats. From a Bass Player article, I selected Pyramid Gold flatwounds. When I found them at a local music store, they were $69 for the set. So I have a bass that cost as much as the strings did!
Gets funnier: Jumping forward in time, I requested my custom set of strings direct from Pyramid (Max was my email contact there) and in 2022 the price for a single set of custom strings was $54!
The strings came in, and were the right length, but were the wrong diameters. Too thick for what I want. So I contacted Max at Pyramid, and he apologized and sent the correct ones to me by the end of that week. Two weeks later, they showed up (shipping from Germany seems to be about 2 weeks). New ones are looking good!
Tested for length, and they are perfect. Oddly, the silks are a darker green than what my old ones are.
Also noteworthy is that the exterior of the strings are more evenly smooth across the sizes. Not sure it will show up, but they are very uniformly smooth, vs. look at the pic just above.
Now to record what the bass sounds like prior to changing anything, so that I have a benchmark for the mods that are coming.

From past posts of yours, I've gathered that your Samick is a conventional 30-incher. However, you specified 31.5" for the full-thickness winding length in your custom string order. Why not 32", as more than one string company* have as a short-scale standard? Does the bridge have an unusually short distance between saddles and back-plate?
* [Sure, Pyramid is not included in the above, their usual "short-scale" sets being actually closer to "medium", and their truly-short ones being few and far between, like the no. 820 (roundwound) we discussed before.]

Quite so, that the Samick (Shorty) is a 30" scale length with a typical bent plate bridge like many 7ender basses have.
I specifically wanted Pyramid Gold flatwounds, so no interest in roundwounds or any other string company. As you know, Pyramid's short scale is designed for a Hofner with trapeze bridge and a bit of distance between the nut and the closest tuners. Shorty has a slightly shorter bridge (I think) and very little distance from the nut to the E-string tuner.
Thus, custom length 80cm from ball to top silk. They fit great, exactly as I had hoped.
I am in desperate need of this service. I too had heard that Pyramid would make custom strings but had no luck finding their website or order form. I have a super short scale MIJ at 25" saddles to nut and want flats of light gauge...apparently much like you have ordered. I do not understand the string nomenclature. Thomann string specialists did NOT mention anything about custom winding and only mentioned that the Pyramid shorts were 32" "to the taper". Does that mean where the silk starts? That is way long for what I need. If you can post a link so I can order directly, I have all the measurements ready to go. Any help and/or guidance would be much appreciated. By the way, do you mind revealing the cost for this service? Thanks in advance. Tom
