Last year someone posted this scan of an old Ernie Ball catalog, and more recently someone else linked to the post.



I'm ashamed to say that I've forgotten who these saints were!

I thought it would be useful to type out the info, to make it easier to find in searches etc. I really really really hope I havent made any typos....

In 1974 we introduced the 4 electric bass custom gauge set groupings shown below. Guild, La Bella, and D'addario have adopted the Ernie Ball string gauge combinations:

Group I (55–75–90–110)
• D'addario HR-73, XL 230
• La Bella 760-H, 760R-H
• Guild F-400H, R-400H

Group II (50–70–85–115)
• D'addario HR-72, XL 160
• La Bella 760-M, 760R-M
• Guild F-400M, R-400M

Group III (45–65–80–100)
• D'addario HR-71, XL 170
• La Bella 760-L, 760R-L
• Guild F-400L, R-400L

Group IV (40–60–70–95)
• D'addario HR-70, XL 220
• La Bella 760-XL, 760R-XL
• Guild F-400XL, R-400XL
