Pros
  • Light, slim neck, easy to play
Cons
  • Feel to much string vibration through the body of bass
It's good if you have small hands or want a light bass. Good for a beginner but may soon want to upgrade. Overall it's only good, cheap and cheerful.

Pros
  • Excellent quality at this price point! Great neck! Thin and fast!
Cons
  • None really, again considering the price.
I bought one of these used, several years ago, on eBay. My job sent me to a 3 week training course that required flying to and from, and I couldn't live that long without a bass!

I removed the neck, and packed the body in one suitcase and the neck in another. Travel bass!!

I was really surprised at the quality of the bass! I wasn't expecting much; hadn't played an Ibby in years (Fender guy) and was really impressed with the feel and accuracy of this bass. I did a setup at the hotel, dialed in the intonation, and didn't have to retune for the entire time! Loved the nice thin neck! Another reviewer said the neck was "slow". I don't know what he usually plays, but it felt almost like a guitar neck to me!

The sound didn't knock me out, but I was playing through a little VOX headphone amp when amplified. I mostly just played it unplugged.

When I got home, I put it up on eBay and sold it for the same amount I bought it for!

Great beginners bass, and a good "knock around" bass, as well. I kinda regretted selling it, but I have some great basses, and it wouldn't have received much play time (and I think my wife is "counting" anyway ;) )

Pros
  • Great sound, feel, and playability. Excellent value. Plays better than many more expensive basses.
Cons
  • None
This is a great beginner / intermediate bass. My girlfriend owns one, and we keep it in the music room alongside all of my higher-end basses. Every now and then I play it and I'm always, always impressed with the sound and feel, especially for the price. The output is very hot and the tonal range very wide for a passive instrument. Wish I'd have had a bass this nice when I was starting out.

As of now, the action is a bit high and the bass needs a set up. Thinking of going with light strings and lowering the action; probably slap like a monster.

Pros
  • Much value for the money, plays as good as a $ 500 instrument.
Cons
  • Slow neck and doesn't set up properly without a shim in the neck pocket
I own the EX version with the two humbuckers and the active electronics. It is my first bass. I've played a lot of other basses, ranging from $ 100 Deans to $ 4000 Rickenbackers, but I keep saying that my GSR200 is top. After having set up the instrument to my likings it really competes with the more expensive SoundGear series. Some extra attention for the intonation: once set, it is absolutely flawless for all four strings. If I had to buy a beginners bass again, I'd go for the Ibanez without doubt.

Pros
  • Very comfortable and thin neck, great glossy finish, very versatile, light, perfect for beginners, comes with Elixer strings
Cons
  • none
Quite simply the best bass for beginners. Its wafer thin neck is super comfortable, and the stock pickups are very versatile. The finish is great as well, and the Elixer strings it comes with are the icing on the cake.

Overall, if you are in the market for a first bass, do not hesitate a second to get one of these.
