So I have tried searching.... but has anyone tried using their Block under 4 ohms on a regular basis?

Official Quilter Bass Block 800 Club

So count me in as a member of the Bass Block club... Just got mine a few days ago and have played two gigs with it already. So far so good; I am really liking it. First gig was with my Lightwave fretless through a PJB 4B. Just a guitar player and myself mainly doing jazz and the like. Took me...

    Willcox Bass Club (Lightwave)

Ditto on the adapter.... Several possibilites. First, the employee didn't know anything about the Lightwave and assumed that it needed to be plugged in to work and had no knowledge of the internal battery. Easy way to tell.... since it has been plugged in to play it might have enough charge...

    Willcox Bass Club (Lightwave)

Joe... I had an Ashbory, and I will say without a doubt the Lightwave with the TI Jazz Flats is more authentic upright sound. But there is alway room to grow and experiment.... And NO two uprights sound the same either... for example, Eddie Gomez has a LOT of mid range growl that is downright...

Chris, great talking with you! For strings, I would love to see about pure unwrapped gut... I am sure it would be $$$$$$ but if it gets the tone...... And how about a 21st century Hofner type????? With a tail piece you wouldn't need a solid block to anchor the monoliths. Man I wish I lived near...

    Willcox Bass Club (Lightwave)

hehehehe. Yeah since I am going for an upright sound I needed something to dampen the string a bit.... What you see is pieces of rubber band stuck in the saddles. Still not quite enough but haven't gotten around to trying anything else at this point. I think felt would be next... The strings are...

Here are a couple of pics... Top wood is zircote, chambered body is butternut and back is swamp ash, neck is 3 piece maple with cocobolo fingerboard.

NO problem Kirk. Jack Wilson -- The Bass Company or TBC -- was the luthier for the very FIRST run of Lightwave basses. Tim Landers (who is on the Lightwave Artists page) has one of these early Lightwave basses. There is a club here dedicated to TBC basses. As to why I have the last one he...

    The One Bass

My TBC Lightwave..... I have yet to hear an electric sound as much like an upright..... In fact NO electric will sound like an upright unplugged, but once the pick up goes on it then all bets are off. And this TBC sounds like an upright with a pickup.... It is the last Lightwave that Jack...

    Phil Jones Bass Owners' Club

I have 2 4B's and a Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0. 300 watts into 8 ohms, 600 into 4..... The ONLY place I needed to use any other cabs was at an outside gig in a blues band that I did not go through a PA. Just throwing it out there that the Shuttle is a great LITTLE amp that I throw in my gig bag with...

WOW very cool. Yeah the P.O. is a gem around here. When is the last time you have been up here? I don't know if you can do it, but when you get your super, it would be interesting to see if you can plug a different amp into it, but I am thinking not..... The reason I chose the GB, at the time...

The general thought for me is the more you need "tone" beyond 200 hz the more you will appreciate PJB gear. I equate the small driver "quickness" and the fact that a small driver radiates higher frequencies better than a larger driver perfect for the nuances that a fretless can demand. Low...

Now that is an AMAZING response. What is cool about that response is that it isn't just a bunch of drivel; Phil has an honest desire to help users understand what is going on. There never seems to be an attitude that he is too busy or beneath him to offer an explanation. Just a great guy all around.

Cool man.... And just think if you need more umph you can easily add another cab since the 9b is an 8 ohm cab. :hyper: And I really don't think you will need to eq the bottom end. You will be impressed by the low end.... I challenge you tape the bass knob and just play it flat and get used to...

From what I understand, port location has nothing to do with any coupling issue, so I don't think that flipping s 9B would do anything. A port is there to couple the driver's characteristics with the cabinet to help extend the low end response. In other words, the port is not an "amplifying...

"Maybe I'll start with a Berg HT112ER" Exactly my thoughts..... That is a great cab.... Almost got one of those instead of the 4b.... but glad I didn't....

I guess it all depends on what kind of music you are playing. I will say that in a small room I really don't think you would need anything else. It will get boomy.... I will say that I used to play in a blues band that did get pretty loud. We did play in what I would consider a noisy medium...

Thanks.... Yes a hardy few. But if there were a lot of us, then Jack would have to run a big shop and there wouldn't be TBC as we see it now.

    NBD TBC LIGHTWAVE.... Yes Lightwave

Yes and strings really make a difference with this bass. What is really cool is that I can tell right away if I put on a new set of stings what they will sound like before I plug in much better than a magnetic pickup. That is why I thought the TI flats would be good. On my other bass I had the...

    TBC club

Johnny, thanks. Actually I have had the bass for almost two years, but until it was "right" I did not want to post it here. I will say it again that for a fretless, nothing like getting the fingerboard wood the way you want it. And isn't it the truth that if it ain't a $3 or $4 thousand bass...
  31. T

    NBD TBC LIGHTWAVE.... Yes Lightwave

Yes indeed. There are guys that use the TI bronze strings. I have even though about trying to find a pure gut string with the proper gauge/tension, but those would be some $$$$ strings. So far the TI flat do it for me. I tried LaBella flats, tapewounds, DR flats and they just did not do it for me.

Link Removed Bocote top, cocobolo fingerboard, butternut body, swamp ash back. And man does it sound amazing. I was going for an upright sound and I had an idea of how to go about getting it several years back. On traditional magnetic p/u basses I never could get the sound I was hearing...

I have thought the same thing. But if there is no significant difference then having a pair of 4b's certainly lets you have the option of carrying less stuff until you need the extra boom. It would really be interesting to see if one cab with 8 drivers equates to more low end efficiency as...
