I don't know whether the Thunder Reds are going to be the Holy Grail of ubass strings or not. Actually, I ordered the white ones and, by chance, I got a 5-string set with a RED B-string. I put it on my acoustic hog model in place of the E-string and tuned to E. The playability and the comfort...

And on top of all, there are countries (as my country, Hungary), with no wholesalers and possibility to try before buy. For example, I ordered a fretless hog modell through a local retailer and first of all they ordere a fretted model instead of fretless, and that turned out to be unusable...

I had exactly the same problem when I removed the plastic shim from beneath the saddle. When the shim is in its place, the string balance becomes much better but still not perfect. I have a fretless hog model with the new pickup and preamp.

The low(er) E string volume may depend on the string's tension. I have two u-basses, a fretles hog and a SUB. The hog has the new saddle (it is a kind of a black monoblock one) and the SUB has the old one (white, individual pieces). I have the lower E string volume problem with the new saddle...

You can download the Technical Manual for 1st and 2nd sereis HPF from f-deck site, and build it by yourself or ask somebody to put it together for you (so did I, having no soldering skills, etc.).
