I plan on recording me playing with a cable hooked into my amp to my line-in port on my computer, but I have some questions. Should I use the external speaker port, or the headphone port on my amp. And I don't have a very good sound card, would buying a better one improve my recording quality?

On the compressor pedal I just bought, there is a pass/active switch. My bass takes battery's, so I know it's active, but I'm pretty sure the only thing the battery powers is the "power boost", and I have it turned down all the way. Should I still use the active switch?
