    Can I put "normal strings" onto a nut that was filed

    I had the nut widened to accommodate thicker strings (0.175 -> 0.85), not deepened though. Will the extra space cause any tuning issues? I'm planning on putting "normal" strings back on, if/when I get another bass specialised for the low tuning. Would I have to get a new nut, or is it fine for...

    Going to install very thick strings (.175 - .85) on my 4 string. What should I worry about?

    I'd like to know how to go about installing them without fret buzz issues (given the thicker strings will poke out of the nut). Really looking to find a safe way to file the nut, which tools I should use, and things I may not know about to look out for. Any help is appreciated.

    I've been playing bass for a Whole year now. Any tips going forwards?

    21st September 2016 is when I started. It's now my 2nd year playing bass (Sadly also 20 years since we lost Jaco). Anything I should consider looking forward? EDIT: 30 years
