Slap bass: anyone else over it?

If there was a time to be "over" slap, it was about 35! years ago when Steely Dan told Chuck Rainey not to do it on Peg because they were sick of it. Of course Chuck did it in the chorus anyway thinking it would be good for the song. That says a lot about his level of musicianship to me.

How many of us 'really' listen to Jaco?

And we'll all live happily ever after, dancing to the grooves of different bassists.:hyper:

How many of us 'really' listen to Jaco?

Nah, if I need some funk involving Herbie, I'll get out my Headhunter albums and let Paul Jackson do the work while I bob my head. ;)

How many of us 'really' listen to Jaco?

Actually, I bet Mitt thinks Jaco is the very definition of funky.;)

How many of us 'really' listen to Jaco?

I'm with you on this one. It's hard for me to believe that anyone who has ever heard "Come On, Come Over", would describe Jaco as funky. Stiff as stiff can be. It's like a bunch of Germans got together and tried to make dance music. ;)

    Mikeyswood - BUYER BEWARE

I'd push for the full refund, deposit included. He quit on you, you didn't quit on him. By his own admission, he is no longer a professional luthier. (I seriously doubt he's a politician either but that's another matter...) And as for $1750 he spent on "materials" -- he probably means beer...

quitting after an extreme and intense 6 years

I know this is a bit off topic but... Look at this quote from the Guildhall website "There are no up front tuition fee costs for new UK/EU students eligible for a student loan and nothing to repay until earnings reach at least £21,000. After 30 years any remaining debt is cancelled." Tution is...

    Mikeyswood - BUYER BEWARE

I feel for you but ... you tried to do business with the comic book guy from the Simpsons. Worst. Decision. Ever. From his posts here and on FB, it seems fairly clear that this guy isn't a grown-up. Why in the world would you send him $1500 from 10,000 miles away???

A devastating response to the "free music" generation.

And that brings me back to my original point. You guys aren't getting great music (which to my mind implies both quality and scale) because you aren't paying for it. They don't get promotion because promotion costs money, often more than the cost of recording the album. That's what record...

A devastating response to the "free music" generation.

Not listening to enought music? Face facts. Who were the headliners at Bonnaroo? Radiohead and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. These guys are in their 40's and 50's! I when I was in my teens and 20's I didn't want to listen to a bunch of old men doing their dad rock thing. That would have been...

A devastating response to the "free music" generation.

I am getting old. But back when i was young, we made music that old people hated because it was weird or threating or just too damn noisy and it made them feel just how old they were. But I hate music now because it's mostly unbelievably dull. Dumb melodically, dumb harmonically, dumb...

A devastating response to the "free music" generation.

These are the ideas I just don't get. Aja and Songs in the Key of Life weren't elitist projects. They weren't just critical favorites, they were global chart toppers. In fact, I think it's easier to argue that your local punk band or your bedroom music is actually the elitist project because...

A devastating response to the "free music" generation.

Me too. I'm pretty sure that this generation of 20-something music thieves will be forgotten in 20 years because they will have made no meaningful contributions to the art of music. They'll just leave behind a giant pile of half-assed disposible crap that no one will care about because no one...

A devastating response to the "free music" generation.

Right, because the masses don't care about those albums, they'd much rather be listening to French folk music. :rollno:

A devastating response to the "free music" generation.

It's not just musicians that are going to have to adjust, it's the consumers too and ultimately the culture. It seems inevitable to me that a society that devalues music is going to get bad music. All those studio cats with chops? Gone. All those producers with wisdom and taste? Gone. All...

    Why you get GAS

I know everybody has already thought about this, but, how many of the threads on this forum do you think are started by people are with marketing companies? Like the one about the Genz Benz Uber 410. It was started by an endorser, i.e. he markets their product. The body of it is smart enough...
