Hum from Seymour Duncan Vintage P-Bass pickup

My invoice from Seymour Duncan just lists it as "Vintage P-Bass - 4". I think it's the SPB-1 though.

Hum from Seymour Duncan Vintage P-Bass pickup

I've put a Seymour Duncan Vintage P-bass pickup in the neck position of my Fender Aerodyne bass, paired with a Classic Stack Jazz Bass pickup at the bridge. In some environments, I get significant hum from the P pickup. Is this normal? I'm pretty sure I wired it correctly. Any thoughts? Thanks!

    Best Female Singing Voice

I don't think it's meaningful to crown a "Best", but my favorite female voice is Joni Mitchell's.

Odd resonance on my Aerodyne bass -- anyone seen this?

Yes, that was the issue! I adjusted the P pickup, which was too high on all 4 strings. I still need to adjust the J pickup, but the P was the source of the resonance issue. By the way, I used the P pickup adjustment instructions in this video, from Radioshop pickups: Thanks again!

Odd resonance on my Aerodyne bass -- anyone seen this?

Yes, I adjusted the truss rod, string heights at the bridge and intonation.

Odd resonance on my Aerodyne bass -- anyone seen this?

Thanks, I'll try adjusting the pickup height and report back.

Odd resonance on my Aerodyne bass -- anyone seen this?

I recently bought a Fender Aerodyne, and I replaced the original Fender strings with a set of GHS Pressure Wounds to reduce the string noise. The issue I'm having is that I notice an odd resonance when I play up the neck, especially on the E and A strings. It sounds like an additional tone...

Should I send it back? Opinions, please!

If you look at the photo, the gouge is at a right angle to what the string windings would make. So no, I don't think it's from the strings. As for the return/don't return question: if you can feel it while you're playing then return it. If you can't feel it but it bothers you just knowing it's...

This is a SansAmp Bass Driver DI pedal in like new condition. It comes with the original tin box and manual. I have never gigged with it, it has never left the house. I wanted to try this, but I've decided I prefer using just a compressor and no other effects to keep things simple. I'm not...

For sale FEA Dual Band SMX Optical Compressor

This is an FEA Dual Band SMX Optical Compressor. This is the one with 3 knobs per band (threshold, ratio and gain). It's in excellent condition functionally and cosmetically. I replaced the knobs because the original knobs have faint indicator lines that were hard to see. (I'll include the...

Long scale strings on medium scale bass, tension calculations

I have a medium scale bass (Fender Urge) that will accommodate long scale strings, but I wanted to know what the string tension would be with any given long set on my medium bass, and I found a way. GHS has a Bass String Tension Guide on their website...

Low output from bass -- what's going on?

Thanks, I'll try experimenting with the output from each pickup separately. I didn't mention in my original post that I also have a blend pot that precedes the volume and tone pots. It does have a path to ground, so there's got to be some loss of signal there. I'm going to replace that with a...

    Thanks -- yes, that's how it's wired.

Low output from bass -- what's going on?

I'll need to check this. I did have the setup checked by a professional guitar/bass tech after I set it up, but it's worth checking, thanks!

Low output from bass -- what's going on?

I bought the bass used, and it was not in great shape. I removed the (noisy) active electronics and the old pickups, and replaced the pickups, pots, etc. all at the same time. So there's really no meaningful "before" to compare to.

Low output from bass -- what's going on?

I shared a gig with another bassist, and when he plugged his bass into my amp, he had to turn his volume pot way down to match my volume, even though my volume was all the way up. I have a Fender Urge bass that I rewired, with DiMarzio Ultra Jazz (neck) and DiMarzio Area J (bridge) pickups. For...

Are Shorter Scales the Hottest Trend in Basses Right Now?

I'm switching to shorter basses mainly because of the weight, and I also like the more comfortable reach. Just bought a used 32" Fender Urge Standard MIM bass, and I've upgraded to Di Marzio pickups with passive electronics. I'm loving it so far. I find I can use long scale strings on it...

What did the Yamaha RBX270 (or RBX270F) sell for when new?

I'm looking for a fretless bass, and I've found a used Yamaha RBX270F on Craig's list. The guy is asking $250. That seems a little high based on what little I've been able to find online about them. Does anyone know what these basses went for when new (either the fretted or fretless version)...

Why don't manufacturers publish what their basses weigh?

When I was in my 20s, I played a Fender Jazz Bass that probably weighed as much as my Carvin BK40 does today, but I didn't mind it. Now I'm 62, and it's hard to play standing up for a long time with a heavy bass. Thanks for the info about Sweetwater, that's really good to know!

I didn't know that! That's very useful, thanks!

Why don't manufacturers publish what their basses weigh?

If only it were so easy to find the information with a Google search! Try searching for "weight of Ibanez SR300 bass" and see what you get. Lots of places ready to sell you one, but no information about the weight.

Why don't manufacturers publish what their basses weigh?

I think bass manufacturers should publish the weight of their products. I know that there are optional configurations that will affect the weight, and there will be some difference from unit to unit because of variations in wood density. Still, I don't see any reason why they can't publish the...

    Genz-Benz Neox 112T vs. GK 112-II

I'm looking for a light 12" cabinet, and I wonder if anyone has experience with these two and can compare them? I want something with a solid bottom end and good clarity in the midrange, not muddy or boomy sounding. I have the Genz-Benz Shuttle 3.0-10T combo, and it's great for what it is...
