    Double Bass Timing Issues/Questions

I looked up this thrtead out of curiosity. Im with a different band and we are having different problems...imagine that! Now the lead banjo player kicks it off super fast and then the lead singer settles into his rythem...which means we slow down to where he can get all the words in. I brought...

    Double Bass Blistered Plucking Finger/Help

I read all the posts and some of the advice I'll try the next time I'm playing a long session after not having played in awhile. Along with playing with both fingers and the crazy glue and tape that have been mentioned, I also carry a right handed billiard gove. Covers the thumb and two fore...

Double Bass Looking to play out more

The batteries are for the inner ear wireless monitor that one of the groups I play with moved to recently. And breaking down and loading the gear at 0200 after playing 3 sets at a club is not for me either these days!

Double Bass Personal Experence: Difference Between Old Kay and New Engelhart

Some of the post I agree with, some not. I still play the engelhart, and have had 2 different kind of strings on it. Both were set up by same guy. Who's well known and respected in our area. Strings on the engelhart were the same as what is on the kay now before i changed them. The Kay is an...

    Double Bass Timing Issues/Questions

LOL I love the ones that practise a song in one certain tempo and chord, and then on stage suddenly it's in a different chord and your're just shaking your head wondering where did he get this tempo from? And silently greatfeul that he called the chord out as he was introducing the song LOL...

Double Bass Looking to play out more

I don't expect, nor am looking to quit work and make a living playing bluegrass...or for that matter rock or country. But I love bluegrass, and want to play more at festivals and shows. Love playing in the parking lot (some of the best jams I've ever been in happened after the stage shows were...

Double Bass Personal Experence: Difference Between Old Kay and New Engelhart

I've played electric basses for years, but wanted to finally get into the upright world and play out at bluegrass festivals. I bought a new Englehart and hard it set up professionally and loved it. Played great, sounded great, and once I finally got some calluses LOL and endurance built up I was...

Double Bass Looking to play out more

I agree Bluegrass greg. But money for gas to drive up to Ohio or down to Florida, or a free camping spot if I haul a camper helps out. better luck in the lottery or stoc market in making money than in playing bluegrass LOL.

Double Bass Looking to play out more

I completely agree! More luck with the lottery or stock market for making money LOL. But money for gas when driving up to Ohio or down to FL or a free camping spot if I haul a camper helps out. I love to play in front of a crowd...the larger the better. There's nothing better than getting a good...

    Double Bass Timing Issues/Questions

Thanks, Funkinbottom, and I 1/2 way agree with you. In practise, we've stopped in mid song and reset the tempo, or reconfirmed that it is right where it was. Next time through it was better. But on stage in front of a crowd, mid way through a song...there's no stopping because of timing issues...

    Double Bass Timing Issues/Questions

Great comments from you'll. I'm going to combine the replies into this one post. Sorry if it causes confusion: Superman- Great post. And correct. I play on 'top' of the beat and have a driving bass. When I'm playing a song I lock in with the guitar/singer. Usually it's the same one luckily so...

Double Bass Looking to play out more

Right now I play with 2 bluegrass bands in middle GA. We're booked at 2 of the local bluegrass festivals and another one in south GA and that's great. But it is not enough! I'd play out every weekend or at least every other weekend if I could. Willing to travel so long as travel costs are...

    Double Bass Timing Issues/Questions

I've played bass, both electric and upright, for years. Country, rock, bluegrass, played it all and got the badges. I've got good timing. Never had a problem until recently. I play with a bluegrass group and one of the leads constantly speeds up. What that means is that he's not listening to...
