    Using pentatonic scales

Thank you for your reply. This gets to what I'm wondering. I guess what I'm saying is, for instance, I've played guitar for awhile and have to admit most, almost all, I do by way of notes (as opposed to chords) centers around the major and relative minors and their same position pentatonic (by...

    Using pentatonic scales

How many of you have learned your pentatonic scales for a given key all the way up and down the neck? Seems to me most players (and I'm new at this, btw) stay one or two positions from the relative minor scale form (5th fret amin in key of C (or amin) for example).

    Hello from Minneapolis, MN, USA

More great advice, you should write a book! Maybe you already have. Anyways, looks like I need to make "Roots and fives" my mantra for awhile. Thanks again!

    Hello from Minneapolis, MN, USA

    Hello from Minneapolis, MN, USA

Thanks, wow, really nice of you. As a bassist, when you look at chords, do you find yourself noting the "color tones" (aug, 6ths, sus, 13ths, etc) or do you concentrate on the more triadic intervals (major, minor, dom 7, major 7, etc)? I guess what I'm asking is how often does playing the more...

    Hello from Minneapolis, MN, USA

Thank you for the advice. I'll work on hearing the kick drum and playing the root this evening. Right now its just so tempting to run scales like I do on guitar. It sounds awesome on bass. Of course, thats not what I should concentrate on. So tonight I'll play roots over some jazz standards or...

    Hello from Minneapolis, MN, USA

Hi All, I'm a long time 6 string guitar player who has recently taken up the bass. So now I'm all about all things bass. I think the number one reason I've picked it up is I've realized the bass better fits my ego at this point. That and it seems, now that I'm paying more attention to the...
