I couldn't love this beauty any more than I do. I still get chills every time I pick it up. Chris is an artist. Every detail is perfect.

Club Stambaugh - Show your Stammies!! [Part 6]

Update: I had a custom pick guard made for the most adored instrument of all time. I fondle it for 5 hours a day, and it isn’t enough. I think I’ve had it for close to a year now? NEVER goes out of tune and sustains for days. Seriously, the wenge/maple thru-neck just doesn’t give sh*t about...

Happiness is a Stambaugh bass with an all-Aguilar signal.

Club Stambaugh - Show your Stammies!! [Part 6]

Yep, couldn’t bear to wait on the global lack of Nordy supply, so I listened to the universe and got the Agulars. I was on the fence anyway. I’m really impressed with the variety of tones in the DCBs. All the frequencies are there to be played around with. That’s all you can ask from a pickup!

Club Stambaugh - Show your Stammies!! [Part 6]

Sorry for the double post, but I think this might be her best angle. Plays like butter. So easy to make clean tones all over the board. Love the Aguilar DCBs, too.

Club Stambaugh - Show your Stammies!! [Part 6]

This guy Chris is the real deal. I’m jealous that he has a job that can bring this much joy to someone. I am deeply, deeply in love with this guitar. It’s my favorite thing I’ve ever owned. Worth every penny and more. I know y’all think your Stammy is the prettiest. You are wrong. Mine is. Sorry.

    Supro Huntington Club

Selling my Supro Huntington 1 with Piezo. Zero wear. No travel. Just pampered at home. Replaced original 1Meg pots with 500k in fender jazz bass configuration (VVT). Also had pickup cavity shielded. Sounds way, way better than stock. $900. Shoot me a PM if interested.

No flat wound strings allowed with fretted basses?

Finally someone said it. Don’t get me started on the “tonewood” thing for an electric bass. I’ve given up explaining that what people call “resonance” on an electric instrument is just energy loss as far as the string is concerned. There’s no point in making any argument based on physics with...

No flat wound strings allowed with fretted basses?

Bass strings are not made of Kryptonite. They obey the laws of physics. Don’t fear de-burring of machined metal. You will not open a wormhole.

No flat wound strings allowed with fretted basses?

Relax. We are talking about light deburring with extremely fine steel wool for a few strokes. There’s no way you could change the roundness. Do it before installing the strings so there’s no dust. The strings aren’t cutting (duh), they are just a little rough. Sheesh. I’ve done this for years...

No flat wound strings allowed with fretted basses?

Personally, string noise from rounds always really bugs me when I hear it on any bass (squeaks don't belong in the bass register!). To me, the perfect balance between eliminating string noise and still having some overtones to play with is the GHS Bright Flats. People complain about the...

Club Stambaugh - Show your Stammies!! [Part 6]

Pretty sure I have now seen every available pic of a Stambaugh bass on the internet. There is no more content to distract me from the wait now. Just me and the clock. Starting to get the shakes…

Pros & Cons of a Wenge Neck?

That’s not far off from what Chris Stambaugh is building me right now, but with dual coils instead of J p/ups. Just waiting on Nordies, frets, hardware, and an oiled finish (with a burst) wenge/maple neck Wenge board Mahogany body wings

Club Stambaugh - Show your Stammies!! [Part 6]

A burst, oiled finish, some stainless frets, and some Nordies are all she needs before coming home to cuddle with me. Wenge/maple neck-thru. Mahogany body wings. Dual coils with parallel/series/single. 32” scale (why play anything else?). Mojo level high to quite high. Chris is a f-ing...

    Supro Huntington Club

Definitely watch a YouTube video on basic soldering. Get some extra pickup cable online. It’s coaxial, with the ground “wire” braided around the insulated hot wire to shield it from interference. There’s a trick to making that ground connection to the pots with the braided part without meting...

I should never have complained about the Supro single coils or the piezo. With 500k pots, I found a sweet spot. Loving it.

Club Stambaugh - Show your Stammies!! [Part 6]

Just sent in my deposit for a neck thru 32” offset. I hear he isn’t taking new commissions until mine is done though! (Wink)

    Stambaugh Designs still in business?

I like to give folks the benefit of the doubt, even if that means getting disappointed. That said, art takes time and lots of work.

There are solutions to the quiet e-string. Mine was groundwounds and a little extra bass on the amp. My e string booms, and I have a piezo.

    Stambaugh Designs still in business?

He said 6-months. There’s so much damn trust involved in this. It seems like there are successes as well. My design is right in Chris’s sweet spot judging by gallery.

    Stambaugh Designs still in business?

Just order a 32” 4-string neck-thru from Chris. Pretty excited. From everything I read, he’s the real deal. I’ll probably create a build thread, but just wanted to confirm that he is still taking commissions. Just don’t order anything from him until he finishes mine!

    Supro Huntington Club

Yeah, you’re right. My bad. I love the muted Motown sound, and mine is perfect for it at about 5-10 degrees of tone and the piezo muted. In my opinion, that’s where the Supro single coils are happiest. Sounds like a proper short scale.

Any Halo Custom Bass Success Stories?

Oh man. I just ordered one from Halo, but I didn’t dig into the forums like I should have. I definitely expected lots of progress photos. The fact that you don’t know what yours looks like beyond that pic is very worrisome. Hoping to hear good news when yours arrives. Wondering if I should...

This Supro string comparison has such a cool riff I had to learn it right away!

    Supro Huntington Club

Totally agree. I would not have put so much time into tweaking it if I didn’t love it. Playing around with the electronics just makes me bond with it more. I will say, I think Supro was doing everything they could with pots and pickups to make a short scale sound brighter instead of just...

First, note that I am post 420 on this thread. Just sayin! I’m the loving owner of a H1 Tobacco Burst. Of all the instruments I’ve owned (martins, etc), this the all-around coolest. I love it. It makes me want to play. I’ve been following this threat for a while now, and I have to say I’m glad...
