Good question. VALVE uses a triode pair in series and BOOSTER employs a pentode run at low gain (just set G2 low). Users of both report they are quite similar in tonality. They both do the same thing, adding a ton of even order harmonics as the signal level increases. Here is what the VALVE...

Nope. Won't work for poopie. It's a pedal designed to stay cleanish but warm. To get it dirty you need a boost in front of it. Oddly...

Hagerman Half Watt - Can we use a 1/2 watt guitar amp with a bass?

Did a quick test with BASS control maximized, TREBLE at noon. LF response is decent down to 56Hz (open A string). I'd wager none of the other micro tube amps come even close to this.

Hagerman Half Watt - Can we use a 1/2 watt guitar amp with a bass?

There is an internal resistive load when speaker is unplugged. This keeps headphone output under control (not getting too loud). When using headphone output as DI, make sure to use a stereo plug! Also, I've created a reactive load box that can handle 5 watts and provides a more gentle DI...

Hagerman Half Watt - Can we use a 1/2 watt guitar amp with a bass?

I believe most mini-amps will not do well with bass because of output transformer size. You need a lot of core material to produce low frequencies. The OPT I use is rated for 8 watts. Costs a lot more, but I believe the performance improvement is worth it. Here is a plot of frequency response...

Hagerman Half Watt - Can we use a 1/2 watt guitar amp with a bass?

I originally planned on adding rubber grommets, but enclosures come in deburred and powder coating is added after drilling. Holes end up nicely rounded and will not cut wires. Enclosure is cast aluminum, not cut steel.

NPD - Hagerman Valve 2025 edition

The first few batches of the VALVE (with tube protector) were slightly rolled off as I had a 1nF capacitor sitting on the output. This is roughly equivalent to 10 feet of cable. That's what you hear in Joe Perkins video. I subsequently lowered the value to 100pF. The new 2025 version has no...

Just signed up! I'm not sure how well the HALF WATT will play on bass, as low frequency extension (-3dB) is at 65Hz. Great for a low-E string on a Telecaster, but perhaps not bass. I'm guessing it may sound a bit thin? Unfortunately, I do not yet own a bass, so have not tried it yet...
