The vids I heard of it the pedals seems to overly darken the tone. Is the new one more trebly?

The first few batches of the VALVE (with tube protector) were slightly rolled off as I had a 1nF capacitor sitting on the output. This is roughly equivalent to 10 feet of cable. That's what you hear in Joe Perkins video. I subsequently lowered the value to 100pF. The new 2025 version has no output low pass filter at all and is flat out to 12kHz.

While the Edison w/ EF86 adds some shimmer

Nice, I did not know about this pedal. Love the trapezoid shape! One of my first pedals released (2020) was an EF86 boost running high voltage. Recently I updated that design moving tube inside to be more rugged and power efficient. Personally, this is my favorite pedal, it just does everything right. I'm imagining the Edison does same...

Thanks for the info on the newer Value models, Jim. The slight roll off on my early Value happens to work perfectly w/ the somewhat bright SCR-DI. Happy accident? In fact, I want to try it in the studio sometime to compare the Value + SCR-DI vs the Edison + SGT-DI.

Yeah, when I saw the cool case design of the Edison I knew I had to have one. But the Valve design is pretty cool as well. Both deliver what I want and look great doing it.

Got my Valve. It took just 3 days to travel the 7,200 miles from Hawaii to the UK... then another 5 days for the remaining 100 miles from the UPS depot in Stansted to my house 🤣

First impressions: sounds great! The compression is noticeable as you crank the drive - in a good way.

It sounds pretty transparent, and a quick frequency test confirms it. At minimum (yellow) and maximum (blue) drive

Great to hear 👍 can't wait to get my hands on it.

According to the tracking number, mine still hasn't left the "island." The anticipation is real 😀

I've only used my new Valve with my Rick 4003s. It chops off a little too much of the zing that bass has. I'd imagine though that blues players or anyone seeking a darker tone would love this pedal. I like it, but I find I like treble in my sound a little more.

I've had my new Valve for a couple of months and just got a chance to use it on some gigs, it's fantastic.

I like the Valve much better than my Edison because it is cleaner, has more control, and adds a more body and even harmonics to the tone of my basses.
I can't describe it but you can definitely hear a marked improvement in the tone and dynamics with the new Valve when switching it in and out.
The Edison is a really good pedal but much better suited for guitar than bass I've determined.

I also own Jim Hagerman's original Tube Compressor and the new 12AU7 Green one too. I have one each on my 2 working pedalboards.
After buying and selling multiple compressor pedals, including both Cali76 versions, Jim's compressors are the absolute best and his service and attention to customers is tremendous. I've turned several fellow bass players on to Jim's pedals and they really dig them too.

Jim is making some amazingly high quality pedals at affordable prices.
