Tell me you're old without telling me you're old

I had one of those Capris too when I first moved to LA. The TR7 replaced it actually. I think it was an iron 4 but not sure. The gas gauge didn't work (bought it used) and I had to be really good at watching mileage so I'd know when to fill it up. It had manual transmission and was pretty...

Tell me you're old without telling me you're old

Scary. My two were fine mechanically (one was totalled by a friend, actually not his fault, and the other was a replacement). The second one rusted out after five seasons of NY winters. They weren't very well rust and salt proofed back then. Now, the Alfa Romeo, that was another story...

Tell me you're old without telling me you're old

I had a Craftsman electric chain saw for decades (needed a power cord), maybe 30 years. It finally gave up the ghost a couple of years ago when the plastic frame collapsed in on itself. No fixing that one!!!

Tell me you're old without telling me you're old

I had two Fiats and an Alfa Romeo that had manual chokes, in the 70's.

I have an early player p (2018) and haven't had any issues with the tuners. I added a detuner on the E string.

Our band plays "Giving It Up" also, it's a fun tune but not one of my favorites. One we just added that people seem to like and is fun to play is Robert Palmer's "Bad Case of Loving You"..

I just saw the silver sparkle player 75 on the wall in GC about an hour ago. Very cool. I have two Player I basses, a J and a P. They are both great. Probably will play the J this weekend at a gig. It's the least gigged but I am working on it

Around here, this explains some of the local sound issues.

Can”t hear any bass at live shows anymore

I feel the same way. Most of the time there are only one or two original members and they’re hanging on by a thread to their voice and playing. I love all that old music, but some of these bands are just tribute bands now in essence.

Can”t hear any bass at live shows anymore

Besides the ridiculous prices, this is one of the reasons I stopped going to big shows years ago. That and the younger patrons who insist on talking or shouting through the whole show and always seem to be seated right in front or right behind me. Also as I get older and the world gets crazier I...

Can”t hear any bass at live shows anymore

I took a weekend bass guitar class with Oteil Burbridge at Fur Peace Ranch a number of years ago. He agreed the sound is usually less than ideal in arena and Stadium shows. He called them “sonic hell holes”.

Things You Don't See Anymore Part 3

They are called pantographs. Some trains, like the NY commuter trains, use them when a third rail is not available. Then they switch to the third rail when one is present. I think the concept is called a catenary.

    Home/office printer recommendation needed

Cool. I have a Canon high speed scanner that has seen heavy use for probably 7 or so years. Since it feed sheets it is somewhat sensitive to paper integrity (it chokes at staples for instance) but it runs great and I feed it huge stacks of paper to scan regularly. I am also a user of their photo...

    Home/office printer recommendation needed

I replaced our Brother laser printers and our various Epson inkjet cartridge printers a couple of years ago with an Epson EF-3760 inkjet that uses refillable liquid inkwells instead of cartridges. This is WAY better and the ink lasts a long time. No fees or subscriptions and the wifi connections...

Pics of you playing your bass - Part 3

Yesterday 5-8 Sunday afternoon restaurant/bar/music venue. Jupiter, Florida. Big, loud, FOH (my water bottle is on a large subwoofer, one of a pair), IEM, sound person, my kind of gig. But small however enthusiastic audience. Sundays are usually slow. Get some boaters after they come in from...

I own a Harley Benton club

No 9# isn't bad, I just like them lighter in general. The Squier CV just FEELS much heavier than its actual weight. I didn't really think reshaping the PB-50 headstock would lose much weight, it just looks cooler so it might be worth doing. Marginal weight loss would be a plus. My Fiesta Red...

What's your rig of choice for this weekend? Part 2.

This is what our stage setup looked like yesterday with our 4 piece. My water bottle is on one of a pair of large subwoofers, one on each side of the stage. There are multiple wedges behind the low wooden wall and large overhead FOH speakers. And a dedicated sound person. It's loud out there ...

What's your rig of choice for this weekend? Part 2.

Second gig of the weekend. Sunday 5 to 8 slot at a local bar restaurant where we play frequently in different bands. Small crowd just a few boaters after docking and a few musician friends. But we had fun and got to play some of our new tunes again live which is always helpful. I love playing in...

I saw your info on that a while back, it's intriguing. I have the Squier CV version with the tele headstock (also a beast at over 9#) I could use as a guide if I was ambitious enough to tackle it. Ultralight tuners would help too. I might do those changes as the thing is, as you say, a great...

I have two HB PB-50 single coil 1950's type P Basses. One weighs 8.7# (FR) and the other 9.5# (SB) . The 9.5# plays and sounds really great but is pretty heavy for me. Also had two HB-PB-20 Satin Black P basses bought around the same time. One weighed weighed 7.5# and the other 8.9#. The 7.5#...

What's your rig of choice for this weekend? Part 2.

Do you get hum from that single coil? I love the bass. I worry about gigging a single coil at someplace new as the hum can be unpredictable.
