common p bass finish

I'm thinking of having a shop re-fin my '61 p bass, since it is already a non-original finish. The bass was painted black when I bought it, but belt-buckle wear reveals an Alder body and thick layers of blonde (?) finish. Lays Guitars shop in Ohio doesn't think blonde would be correct for an...
