common early 60's p bass finishes?

I'm thinking of having a shop re-fin my '61 p bass, since it is already a non-original finish. The bass was painted black when I bought it, but belt-buckle wear reveals an Alder body and thick layers of blonde (?) finish. Lays Guitars shop in Ohio doesn't think blonde would be correct for an Alder body.
I have the 90's Fender bass reference book by Klaus Blasquiz, but I didn't see any production numbers in the book, only colors that were available from Fender.

Does anyone here have any info about what the most common p bass finishes were in the early 60's era?

I received this reply from a staff member at Gruhn in Nashville: "You can't go wrong with sunburst ... It's a safe bet. BUT----- Ever think about Fiesta Red??? It was a common color - but we don't come across it too often."

I don't know if I'm a Fiesta Red p bass kinda guy, but it's a thought. I'd think I'd prefer Tobacco Sunburst.
