Double Bass 1/4 kay strings

Well for the first time ever I took my 1/4 kay out of the case to take on a foliage train ride gig here in Vermont, as space will be tight for a 3/4 . I hit the D string and it broke I have been looking for strings for it as the ones on it came on it , NOW I really need some it seems to be very limited as to what is out there for little basses I would like a good all around string as when the stage is tight I use it for my blues and slap gig any thoughts I just put Evah pirazzi full Synthetic slaps on my Upton and like them a lot for arc. pits and slap but I don,t see a set for 1/4 and hate to put that kinda cash on a bass that comes out only on special jobs .

Also have a look at the excel file in my Dropbox for comparing 3/4 and shorter scale strings for tension on the same scale. Steel core strings usually don't break when the playable part is wound onto the peg.
Also look for the silk colors of your current strings. You might find out what they are that way and can reorder them.
