Lux Interior (RIP)

and Iggy Pop.

David Yow (Jesus Lizard)

Yeah, he's definitely incredible. I got to see him with Scratch Acid and then with Jesus Lizard twice. Great shows.

Warren Ellis (Dirty Three) (and also Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, but not a frontman there... speaking of which, I would probably put Nick up there as well but I have yet to see him, although he did sit in on piano for half of the Dirty Three show I went to)

Cool to see a Dirty Three mention. I really love their stuff. Had a chance to see a free show of theirs around the time their second (first US non-import) album came out and missed it.

I saw The Cramps on a number of occasions. Each one was a holy experience. I've seen and played hundreds of shows. Nobody ever brought it across lke I saw Lux do every time. He was so into it it was scary. I really, really miss him.

I agree. I never cared for his music at all, but having seen clips of him performing and seeing him on shows like Letterman and SNL, the guy most definitely knows how to effectively connect with an audince.

Mick Jagger, Jack White, Anthony Kiedis, Mike Patton, Bon Scott, hell I would even say coheed and cambria's Claudio Sanchez is a better front man, if only for his hendrix-esque playing, showmanship, and out of this world singing (although it gets on my nerves)

To say someone is the #1 frontman of all time implies to me someone who has had great financial success over a relatively long period of time (lots of fan support). They must be a "member" of a band and basically be the face of the band. While they are not and never were my favorite group, I do not see how this could be any other than Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones.

And, using your criteria (minus the "financial success" ...you were kidding, right?), a lot of us do not see how this could be any other than Freddie Mercury of Queen.
