I like the more varigated #1. You lose too much of the contrast and it just fades in #2.

IMHO Pic #1 has better overall composition. Those dark markings really help to emphasize the center area where the bridge and pups will be placed.

Like all the other comments : Number 1 It gives the bass a nice topwood, which has a pattern that's spread out very nice and gives it a quiet atmosphere
