10 string bass

I would've thought the lower strings would be above the higher. Do you exclusively need to use a pick?

you can play fingerstyle ... but the 8, 10, and 12 string basses lend themselves to pick playing ... I currently have my tuned to an alternate tuning where the D and G octave strings are tuned a 5th above intead of an 8th above ... that way I can play chords by playing one note ...

I own a very similar looking bass I got off the bay several years ago. I have since taken the octave strings off and play it like a normal 5 string.

Does that make the string spacing really wide?

Without the octave strings, the spacing is about the same as my MTD 535 (whatever that measurement is) maybe a tad wider.

It is wider than I'm used to, but it's manageable.
