It seems many bassists are not in favor of any bass with more than 5 or 6 strings. Perhaps these instruments should be a NEW breed. You can play bass on a 10 string but, you can also play so much more. 10 strings are NOT just for tapping. You can play lead lines like a guitarist,or chords I just prefer the lower voicings. Some would say I'm not a bassist or a guitarist. What are your thoughts.

I don't approach my 10 string as just more strings, I think of it as a 4 string bass and a 6 string guitar on one neck. I installed an acoustic hex-pander on the high six. Sounds like a baritone acoustic Very sweet and versatile

How narrow can it get you ask.? My friends 10 string spacing is narrower than a strat guitar spacing. The nut is as narrow as my Carvin 6 string bass. Only 10 strings on a fan fret finger board . It works for him, but way to narrow for me...My vision is to build basses that fit the individual, Taylor made to fit your hands. Regardless of standard spacing.
