It seems many bassists are not in favor of any bass with more than 5 or 6 strings. Perhaps these instruments should be a NEW breed. You can play bass on a 10 string but, you can also play so much more. 10 strings are NOT just for tapping. You can play lead lines like a guitarist,or chords I just prefer the lower voicings. Some would say I'm not a bassist or a guitarist. What are your thoughts.

  2. I think with a neck that wide you better be Magic Johnson or you're going to blow your wrists out.

    1. It would be physically impossible for me to manipulate that thing

    2. I have only brushed the surface of what I what I should be able to do with 4

My 10 string neck is very wide but it feels good to me I made the neck profile very thin. I have made a 10 string for a friend , who has very small hands , I just made the neck narrower.

  5. Who gives a crap what others- me or anyone else- say about your art?

I don't approach my 10 string as just more strings, I think of it as a 4 string bass and a 6 string guitar on one neck. I installed an acoustic hex-pander on the high six. Sounds like a baritone acoustic Very sweet and versatile

  7. Post a clip. I'd love to hear it :)

It doesn't really mater what anyone thinks of my art I'm just encouraging people to think out of the box. If a person plays 4 or 10 doesn't make any of us better than the other. Just different.:)

I'm talking 10 individual strings. No doubles . But I've often wondered what a 5 er with doubles would sound like...

  12. Its just a number- if you call it a bass, I'll call it a bass.

How narrow can it get? My ibanez GVB36 is already pushing it with 14.5 mm between strings. Anything less than that is gonna be crazy tight.

How narrow can it get you ask.? My friends 10 string spacing is narrower than a strat guitar spacing. The nut is as narrow as my Carvin 6 string bass. Only 10 strings on a fan fret finger board . It works for him, but way to narrow for me...My vision is to build basses that fit the individual, Taylor made to fit your hands. Regardless of standard spacing.
