Saltwater tanks are special in that the detritus is consumed by micro-organizms and the entire cycle can be sustained without water changes. The freshwater setups don't have that capability in such a small size as a tank. I do a water change in my 75G once a month to maybe 6 weeks at about 35% but I don't have a heavy load on the tank right now. When my Jaguar, Green Terror and Texas Cichlid grow up all of the way up it will be a little different. I'm also running 2 penguin 330's so I have a pretty good bacteria base between that and the gravel which helps a lot!
