The imported Gretsch Electromatic models are great players instruments, basses and guitars both. Consensus on Gretsch players sites is the old original US Gretsch's are for collectors...the new ones are the players. Very well made, solid good players and great sounds - fantastic pickups, designed to be adjustable and versatile.

Type of music is limited by the player, not the instrument.

Can't argue about these new Gretsch Basses.

Better action than my vintage Hofner ( string spacing) and actually felt more like my Rick 4001
Better than expected fit and finish and any good luthier can easily fine tune them.
I wish they came stock with flat wounds because that would compliment them very nicely.

Almost put one on layaway, but really didn't NEED another bass.

Great for Beatles, Byrds, Tom Petty, Wilburys and all kinds of indy rock and pop styles.

I would probably go for the long scale version, but the short scale was really nice too.

I wish people would stop posting videos…makes me want to buy stuff, and this one just made me check out ebay and some other sites!
I like big-bodied basses and this one is beautiful.

My sincerest apologies ;)...enjoy the GAS!

As for the "big bodied basses" the other day my younger brother was studying my Gretsch, and after a moment he said, "You know what that kind of looks like? A fat lady; like, the bottom part's her stomach and the top part [the cutaways] is her boobs." He might have something there...

Well, I have heard people name their guitars after girls, so…

I mostly use mine for Roots-rock/Americana, indie rock, and vibey 60's rock (covered Secret Agent Man with it a few weeks ago), but I don't really limit it to that. Tracked this last week [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] here in Albuquerque.

Unknown flats, heavy pick, Manley Tube DI>API512c>API550b... which is all negated by camera audio.
