12 bar blues

The blues is a great teaching tool because most just take that 12 bar progression and follow it - thus the chord changes are easy to hear and follow, but, feel free to add your own "stuff".

IMO the "standard" 12 bar blues progression is a great bare bones starting point for a first draft on just about any tune, well, with what I play anyway.

As always, thanks for your help. I like shuffles, blues and 12 bar blues. Very rhythmic, which is why I'm in this and rhythm guitar. I never knew anything about blues, but now I'm intrigued. More to learn.

What are some Blues records you guys love?

B. B. King - Listen to how he does the call and response. He calls and his guitar responds. Very seldom will his voice respond. It's a conversation between B. B. and Lucille.

In case --- call and response where did it come from? The caller (head slave) called and the field hands respond to the call.

Yeah, BB King. Live at San Quentin is a great album- shows his range from blues classics to more modern stuff. And showcases BB King at his best as a live performer, getting the crowd involved, etc.
