Is that Greg Bissonette on drums? I saw him with Victor Bailey and Victor Wooten. She's always been great. And she's got a heck of a backup band.
And she'll be 14 in June. But still... I could barely play an awkward rendition of "Smoke on the Water" on acoustic at that age. Killer performance.

I’ve been watching her since she was 8 yrs. old wailing away to Rush songs on a short scale Stingray that was bigger then she was, it’s been fun to watch her progress but sometimes I think she might be being pushed into the limelight a little too soon but her Dad seems pretty cool and she seems to be enjoying it all, definitely a natural bass player.
She’s been featured on the Internet for a long time now - nice to see her getting better and hopefully joining or starting a band that makes some impactful music in the future.
Amazing. She’s giving Tal Wilkenfeld vibes. Proves my theory - no matter how good you are, there’s always some kid who’s better.
This is the girl I often post as a reply to people claiming they need a special bass because their hands are small.

When I grow up, I want to be a child prodigy.
She's kind of an interesting case on this, because on the one hand she absolutely can rip on a full-sized or even extended range bass, but she also spends quite a bit of time (possibly most of the time?) using reduced scale/size basses, including the specifically the custom Mayones featured in this clip.
But still, when you're small for an adult person and have small hands, you're still usually larger than the bass you're playing ;-)
There are older videos of her playing a full size bass, but even a regular short scale is looking huge in her hands - yet she plays demanding songs and really grooves with solid tone.
She is a great player, and the band was fantastic, but I missed some stuff in their arrangement.
First, the artificial harmonics on bass in the beginning. I prefer that to her slapping the part that Zawinul played on the keys.
Then no insane tenor shredding over the chromatic descending chords motif? How can you leave that out?
The organ player played a nice solo, he could have gone into the descending chords section there?
So the playing was great, the arrangement choices generally ok but some key parts of the original arrangement being missing definitely detracted from my enjoyment.

I personally like seeing people cover songs in a different arrangement. Shows they have a bit more going for them than just being a copycat cover band. Having watched her for years now I'm sure it was creative choices more so than not being able to copy it exactly.
She's such a well rounded talent already, playing and singing, and multi instrumentalist, that if she can get good original stuff going.... she will hopefully have a great career that would be amazing to watch over time.
Yes, I highlighted the arrangement changes that I felt detracted from this arrangement. I am sure they were all conscious changes.
That was my initial reaction! It sure is. I think I’m more impressed that he wasn’t exploding with caffeinated energy. Though, being 12 and playing like that with that group behind you is pretty cool.
I mean... If you wanted to hear all that, that's what the original version is for. Personally I prefer cover versions such as this to be an interpretation. Bring something new to it. Not a copy cat version.
Now yeah, if you're gonna go see a Rush cover band or something, you're gonna expect everything to be note for note, but this is Jazz!
She and her dad are doing a great job of promoting her. However, I don't consider her a 'prodigy'. She'll be a very good bassist though. She'll have a good gigging life.
I love seeing kids still are playing music these days, and at this level especially.

Cool to see kids playing. Regarding the virtuosity, everyone's a virtuoso anymore, so...meh.
