15" cab needed. Advice please

One of the reasons an 8x10 has "more bass" than a 2x10 even if they're both playing at the same SPL is cancellation of the upper frequencies due to comb filter effects. This won't show up in an on-axis measurement as it's an off-axis phenomenon, but it's clearly audible.

I would also recommend Barefaced; you might consider the Compact if the Big One is out of your price range.

This is why I don't really buy the theory that matching cabs have a more predictable response than any other non matching combinations. Combing will change the overall tone no matter what combination you use. The bottom line is that you have to try before you buy.

I use an old Eliminator I bass reflex cabnet. It was a PA set up but installed a JBL 15" bass speakers and ditched the horns and crossover networks. Actually used 2 of them but blew the speaker on one never used it after that.

Mesa Powerhouse cabs are definitely fine pieces of gear. I've owned and used a 1x15 and a 2x10 as my sole rig since I could afford professional gear. Most of the past 7 years, I've only used the 15, as most of my gigs didn't require both. It is a bit better of a stand alone cabinet. When I made my decision, I tried my bass and head through all the cabinets the music store had to offer, SWR, Ampeg, Hartke, GK, Ashdown...all great products. To me, the Mesa gear had the best balance of clarity, tight punch, bottom, the whole package. One downside, Mesa gear is not light, however if your using multiple cabinets, an extremely streamlined portable rig isn't the highest priority. I know that to each their own, but i love the mesa cabinet sound.

Would it not just make more of the same mid tone if another 2 by 10 was pair with it? Can't say I have tried another one yet though

No
four 10's will give you as much bottom as you'll need IMO
not to mention sheer volume
bigger speaker size doesn't equal more lows
It's more cabinet size & tuning

that said 2x10 in a small cab
or even 4x10 in a small cab is the worst thing I've ever heard

2x15 would be killer for huge bottom
or 2x12 under 2 10's

I've never been a fan of 2 10's on a 15
the 15 always seems to loose something
I guess with a crossover it'd be fine though

IMO, the worst thing would be a large 2x10 on a small 1x15

There are so many variables to deal with
you should take your 2x10 and go try some cabs

I would not waste my time trying to add another 2x10,Listen to your ears and what other players are telling you that they use and make your own decision from there.
Mixing and matching cabs can be a crap shoot but when you get the right combination it sounds great.
Enough with this it has to be the EXACT same cab or it wont be technically perfect.
I have had alot of nice cabs and enjoyed buying and selling and mixing and matching until I achived MY perfect sound.
You will find that the right combination will really compliment each others strengths and weaknesses, not just more of the same thing.
