15s vs 10s as main in a system with subs

I currently have older style Carvin 2 x 15 with a horn as my tops with a pair of 18 subs in my PA for a Bar Band, I am considering buying the new Trxn series with 2 x10 for mains. Since I use subs and cross them over at 120 or so, I am thinking the new carvins might sound better on vocals and guitars.

Is my thinking flawed?

If you're looking for better overall PA sound and currently placing subs on opposite sides of the stage, grouping your subs or just using one may do more for your group than replacing the 2x15 tops.

Interesting...I use the 1 X 15 LS's on tripods and 18" subs. Problem with towers is getting them jacked up high enough. A pair of quick-lok stands would do the trick.

I'm in on this...let's hear what the others say.

Well I have never heard the Carvin speakers but the TRXN is the Carvin top of line model. A 215 cab is usually a bad choice unless you spend alot of money. I would guess the 210 rig would sound better.

It's a game of trade-offs. Most double (and single) 15's don't sound as nice in the upper midrange, but in this case the 10's may be lacking in the low-mids, and as was stated in losing displacement you may lose some SPL's, or at least have to run the 10's harder to achieve the same SPL level. Tough call without listening to both boxes paired with yours or similar subs.
