I have the original and the ash trays stashed away in a safe place. 59 was a real transition year for Fender, they went from one piece maple necks and fingerboards , to slab rosewood fingerboards, replaced the gold anodized pick guards with tortoise shell and the necks also changed profile. Generally, the majority of the basses were tri bursts, black, or white. While I have seen a few original red ones, the majority of the custom colors I’ve seen are refin’s When I bought mine it was simply a “used bass”. The boutique bass market didn’t exist. You be well advised to pass on that Frankenstein’d spare parts bass that’s missing it’s neck or head depending on how you look at it.
