Someone sent me this link just now:


A couple of things are weird to me:
-This bass is an obvious refin, and not a very good one. Why didn't they say so? Why keep that information from the owner?
-Why, when he knew the bass could be worth 12K (which in my view is pretty optimistic for a refin '60 P), did the owner agree to only $2,000 for the bass?
-They kept the electronics original but also re-wired it? I get they want to make it functional again of course but why contradict themselves?

Other than that: absolutely gorgeous bass.

Nevermind the fact that the P-bass is a few years older than the Strat. Granted they started contouring the bodies when the Strat came out but it definitely wasn't a case of "we sold a lot of Strats, lets make a bass" like he said.

The show is fake. An LA friend of mine said an actor friend was on once... they just handed him an object, gave him a basic story and said go. Evidently the same person was also a background "bidder" on Storage Wars (also a staged show).

Pawn Stars is fake!? Storage Wars is FAKE? Is nothing sacred? One can only surmise that the woods are not haunted and Bigfoot is made up and the “witnesses” are paid ‘actors’.

I have to confess, I fell for Storage Wars when I got sucked into a marathon while in a hotel traveling only to be disappointed. Haha!

I have since shunned reality TV but every so often if I'm someplace that has cable I can get easily get sucked into watching some North Woods Law or Naked and Afraid. :laugh:

Generally, I'm with you.

I watched the first episode of Survivor and called BS; if this show was really about survival, they'd drop these jokers off in the Arctic and tell them "last one still here wins..."

But then a decade later, I watched "Alone"...which featured survival experts, dropped off in challenging environments (including the Arctic) and they either choose to go home or get pulled during their weekly medical exam.

Some episodes, no one goes home. Some episodes it's several.
Until the last episode, when the winner realizes that they just won $500k...

There's always a certain amount of artificiality involved; in a completely real survival scenario, some people don't survive - and I don't ever want that to be turned into entertainment.

But within the guardrails and rules of the contest, they seem to play it pretty straight.
