I've been listening to some lately. It's interesting in terms of note choice (more interesting than mine) but also in terms of tuning and intonation as often these are poor. Sometimes it's just one string that's out, for example.

JPJ, Ramble On. Not all strings in tune with each other. Also, quite heavily over driven below low A, much cleaner elsewhere, not that you can really tell in the mix. He only really goes down low when playing harder, which is part of it.
But really, on a lot of period tracks not everything is in tune, and it applies to many instruments. It makes me feel a but better about my playing .
