4) 1966 Fender Precision Bass
One of the coolest out there folks! Transition era Fender P with some oddities abound!
ALL ORIGINAL save for the mutes which I had replaced recently.
Bought from the original owner who played it extensively for over 35 years! Original receipt (from an old store 10 minutes from current location)!!
Interestingly, the neck is dated 5Jan68, neck plate is 214423 but the pots date at the 30th week of 66' (July 66') AND THE ORIGINAL BILL OF SALE IS on June 17th 1966 in Ohio!! Hmmm...I know I am the only one to ever turn a screw! Oval tuners are very strong and the bass weighs 8.7lbs with the covers on. Exceptional balance! The alder wood as an almost ash grain appearance. Nice older style sunburst with polite overall checking, not too bright or flaky at all!
The real kicker here is the possible original tapewound strings! Not only do they look great amongst the dust, tarnish, and green funk, they produce such the archetypal P bass tone! Along with the mutes, they are an invaluable source to all those vintage tones we know and love! It would be great if Pino or Raphael could get there hands on this...
