Back in 1983 as a kid, i bought a 1971 Fender Precision in Nyc Mannys music store now closed.
was 400 bucks. It was supposed to be all original except was routed for jazz pick up,Badass bridge and emg set up. sounds amazing to this day, yes , i know it stinks she was routed.
The neck had no decal on it when I bought it.
i always thought it was a fake neck or replacement neck due to the truss rod has to be adjusted with an allen key,i thought all p basses had that phillip head type truss rod end.
I was wrong. a very prominent luthier said it appears to be an 'A" TYPE RARE thin neck,like a jazz with skunk line,1.5 ,not 5/8. Said he absolutly knows its a real fender neck looking closely at neck frets,screws,tuners,patina,etc. Ofcoarse names and dates not on it.
he said neck could have been modified to have easy truss rod adjustment and someone before i owned it may have done that, as evidenced by other customizing done.
Anyone have any ideas? been annoying me for 35 years.
plays better than my other 25 basses,action on the floor, no buzz,etc. I am just wondering why it doesnt have correct truss rod end, I can adjust my neck without taking neck off or screw loosening.
