1987 MIJ Precision - Question

I'm interested in a bass I found on Craigslist:

1987 MIJ Fender Precision with a gig bag

[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

He wants $450, which seems a tad high to me, given what they're going for on eBay ($300-$395, depending on whether or not they are in great condition, whether they include a HSC, etc).

I've offered him $300 for it, he said it has from fret buzz in the upper frets, so a set up would be in order. Plus, it doesn't have a HSC.

I currently have a 2007 Lakland Skyline DJ Jazz, and a 2004 American Jazz Deluxe. I'd like to try a P-Bass without dropping another $1,000 on a Lakland or Fender.

Anyway, do you think it's a fair offer? I believe that it is, but I figured it was worth asking...

Thanks!

If you get it for 300 it's a really good deal in my opinion. They typically sell for around 375 to 450 depending on the condition and how motivated the seller is. I don't think you can go wrong with a Fender Japan P bass. I would typically spend around 350 if it is in decent shape. I also prefer to see the bass and then talk price. Cash in hand is a great motivator sometimes......

I am thinking about spending the extra money and going with a Lakland Skyline Glaub, I really like the Laklands.

I have a guy trying to sell me a Fender 50's Road Worn P-Bass, but that just seems like cheating. Plus I generally don't like MIM Fenders...

What to do, what to do?

Don't be too quick to discount the MIM's. A lot of people who own the roadworns are really happy with them. That said it aint my bag. Lakland have some great models. Well one thing is for sure...if you dont buy that MIJ P bass....someone else will. Good luck with your purchase!
