I recently acquired a 1994 Tobias Basic 6 string bass.
When I first bought it, it was wired wrong and the bass/mid/treble did nothing when I turned the knobs...
Had a local shop rewire it (had to get the Bartoloni HR-MT5 preamp diagram from Gibson myself).
Now that it is wired correctly, the 3 band eq changes the tone when you turn the knobs, but not by much; especially the mid.
Is this typical of this type of this preamp?
it has a mid pot labeled W50K (diagram says CD50KM). Assuming that this is the same value and just a part number difference, is there a pot that will give me a wider range?

As far a I know, CD stands for "center detent", meaning that you will feel a "click" when you hit the mid-point. This means that the mids are flat at center, boosted in one direction and cut in the other.
Your technician may not have been aware of this, and installed a regular potentiometer, which would not have the same effect.
Beautiful bass, and glad to see you're bringing it back to its former glory!!!
