This is a 1994 USA made G&L SB-2. I purchased it from a fellow TB'er a few years back and it's just been used for at home practice since. It came to me with plenty of mojo/cosmetic wear and tear already, but as far as I know I didn't add any.
I dated it back to 1994 using G&L's registration website:
The G&L Enthusiasts Website
This bass wasn't registered on the site, but the serial number on the neckplate (B025208) slots in-between these two:
This bass is in the PJ configuration with only two knobs - a volume for each pickup position. It took me a minute to figure it out, but full on neck volume for an aggressive midsy P sound and dial in the bridge volume in to soften it/make it sound more vintage. As far as I'm concerned this bass is the sound of rock and roll. The neck on this bass is just a pleasure to hold as well.
As much as I love it and don't necessarily want to part with it, I just don't play it anymore. I switched over to a 5 string multi-scale and don't want to play anything else.
Stats:
Radius: 7.5"
Weight on food scale: 9lbs 7.3oz
Nut: 1.5"
Pickups: original MFD (these are HOT - turn all your input levels down when you first play it)
Electronics: passive
Straplocks are installed
Items of note:
-The bass does have a slight buzz/hum from the pickups (it disappears if you turn the pickup volume all the way down). NOTE: some of this actually seems to be related to a grounding issue - quiets down when strings or knobs are touched.
-The G string tuner can get a bit tight to turn. I've taken it apart and cleaned/re-lubed it, which solved the issue for a decent amount of time but it slowly started to come back after a while.
-The case is a G&L case, but it has seen better days. It's repaired with spray foam and black Gorilla glue duct tape. The fabric strap that keeps the lid from opening all the way currently needs repair.
Feel free to ask me any questions. Thanks for looking!
