Featuring a gloss natural finished ash body and lightly figured birdseye maple neck, this StingRay weighs 9lbs 14oz, with a sustain and depth to the acoustic tone that translates well through the pickup. The low end is incredibly rich and focused, even with the lowest notes on the B string. Professionally set up with 45-130 roundwound strings, this bass plays incredibly well with low action and rock solid intonation. Ernie Ball Music Man's StingRay 5 5-string bass gives you the solid bottom end you need to drive the most demanding rhythms, plus a ton of tonal versatility. Ever since the early '70s, StingRay basses have been sought after by many of the world's most demanding bass players, and for good reason. From the very first time you plug in an Ernie Ball Music Man StingRay 5, you'll appreciate both the phenomenal low end punch and the surprising tonal versatility its single alnico humbucking pickup can deliver. Granted, the extra-stout pole pieces and wide windings provided by this alnico pickup contribute a solid basis for your tone, but its the StingRay 5's active preamp and 3-band EQ that really let you sculpt your sound. As a result, everyone from shoegazer-era rockers to funk masters have enjoyed the extreme punch this instrument has to offer. There's simply no substitute for a great neck, and Ernie Ball has put a ton of work into developing a neck that would provide you with the perfect balance of comfort, speed, and stability. The StingRay 5's 1 3/4" nut gives you plenty of room to play, and the 11" radius fingerboard gives you excellent string-to-string separation. Finished with gunstock oil and a hand-rubbed special wax blend, the back of the StingRay 5's neck feels amazing and lets you hand glide along effortlessly. And with its 6-bolt attachment, this bolt-on neck delivers a stability that easily surpasses most set necks. The stock medium jumbo frets show notable fretwear on frets 1-5, with lighter wear extending beneath the A, D, and G strings and tapering off until the octave, with virtually no wear further up the figured birdseye maple neck. The neck pocket is dated to April of '98, with a hand-dated neck heel from June of the same year. All of the electronics work as intended, and cosmetically, the body is extremely clean, with just a couple tiny nicks and finish scratches in the lightly ambered clear coat on the ash body. The neck profile is notably clean, and this is a professionally setup Music Man that's ready for stage and studio use. The original hardshell case is included.
