2 2x10 Stacked Vertically

I have a 4x10 square bottom I am thinking of cannablizing in pusuit of an idea.

I like the feel of a stack where there are speakers at chest and head height. I would like to have two custom 2x10 cabinets made that are 36" tall by say 15" wide and stack them. The result would be a column of 4 10" speakers 6 feet tall. The rig would be very portable and provide excellent monitoring while acting like a line array.

Can anyone suggest a cabinet builder with knowledge of cab design that could help with this project?

I have looked at Accugroove and LDS and others, but their standard cabs are not tall enough to reach 6 feet tall.

These aren't line arrays by the way - just vertically aligned drivers. Doesn't really need to be 6 feet tall, does it? The top driver will easily give enough off-axis response that it doesn't need to be at exact ear height. Really what you want to do is get the drivers as close together as possible.

Yeah...I guess it doesn't need to be 6 feet tall. I should check out Avatar.

As far as cannabalizing the cab, I have 4 Eminence BP Legends I would use and store the cab for another day. The cab itself won't fetch much as it is a Hartke XL.

Which BP's? The wizzer or the LF? I would leave the Hartke as is and use the BP's either way. At least we know what the specs are on the BP's and can design a box to fit.

LF. I have 2 Hartke XL 4x10 I dumped/blew the aluminum drivers and replaced with the Eminence speakers. The bottoms sound much better and I love the 8x10 stack with my vintage V4B, I just don't get many gigs where I need 8x10.

Looks like Avatar only sells loaded bass cabs.

Those BP's look good in about 3.5 ft cu at 43 Hz per pair. They will be excursion limited in that big of a box at 165w (per pair). 2.5 ft cu per pair get's you to 200w on excursion and a bit higher mid-bass peak. They really need a mid driver though as they crap out between 500 and 800 Hz. One alpha 6 per pair of 10's crossed over at 500-800 Hz would work. Build your own if you can. You won't learn anything buying an Avatar.

I like the idea of pairing a 6" rather than a tweeter with the BP 10's.

When you listen to old Larry Graham and he snaps, it is not a 'ping' it is more a 'kahhh'. The 8 would help with the 'kahhh'.

I have designed and built (not finished yet, but the woodwork is 90% done) a 5 cu.ft, 2-10/1-6 mid cab for a pair of BP102's. Tuned to 38Hz, its 34"H, 17"D 18.5"W (inside dim's). Two of these (although that was not my intention) would be easily stackable. I will try to post a pic soon. Plan is to xover the woofers @700, mid @400.. Drivers are vertically aligned.. Ports are 10" high, 2" wide, 11" deep

Based on what I've seen, heard, and read over the years, I'd love to see this kind of design become more popular.

Wondering why not make a road case.. that matches a 2x10.. this can stack on top.

I have a large fleet of cabs.. a 2x10 can keep up wiht most bands is overkill for most venues. I understand the height thing.. I have one setup that has a "pillar" box with a 1x12 on top..

Not coupling the floor is a cool thing.

Haven't made any decision yet on the grill, I could make up a 3/4" square frame and stretch cloth, or I might do as I did my 12"s, just use the grills that clamp over the speaker. Since I'm building this in tandem w/a Fitzmaurice O15TB, I'll be finishing 'em w/duratex.
