2008 American Standard Precision

My current 2015 stock MIA Standard is one of the best sounding Precisions I have had. Its got the 60's custom shop pickup. Not scooped at all. I don't know if its just luck of the draw but this one has a big wide and colorful sounding midrange. I have had a few basses from 2008-2012 and I would tend to agree that the pickup in those can be the weak link at times. Its a bit too scooped and modern but that can work really well in some styles I suppose.

I guess...but my 09 AmStd's pickup is going to sit in a box until I croak or decide to sell the bass, whichever comes first. Probably exaggerated about the new one's pickup a bit, but I have a 62 CS P from the early 2000's, and the pickup in the new AmStd I played didn't sound like it to me. And now your comment makes me wonder if it's NOS.

I wouldn't change anything. The 2008 American Standard P's are excellent out of the box IME. They don't need a new pickup.

I gigged one for a couple of years and it cut thru just fine. I also recorded an entire album with my 2008 P as it recorded better than the other basses I brought to the studio (Sadowsky and Roscoe).

Are they scooped sounding? Sure... IT IS A P BASS!

2008 is the beginning of Fender's return to building great sounding and well built American basses IMO.

No idea... The last 2 American Standards that came through my hands were good basses, but not on the level of this one(both of them were 2014's). I don't know if that has more to do with the bass itself. I am not really that interested in putting a GZR in this one to find out as it already sounds exactly how I want it to.

I think the classic P-Bass sound has that hollow midrange and full low mids with slightly leaner lows than say a Jazz. I'm not sure scooped comes to mind, but I am pretty sure you don't mean scooped as in smiley face EQ

Well built, yes. But I did two gigs with the stocker in my 08 Precision and couldn't wait to get it out of there. I don't know about you kids but if I wanted a mid scoop, I would have bought a Jazz!
