Details

Up for sale is an excellent condition Alembic Signature Standard 5 with the desirable balanced K body and upgraded cocobolo top. Weight is right around 11lbs and balances stellar (just under 11 with the LED batteries out). The bass has a very versatile tone pallet and I can see this bass being easily someone’s main and #1 axe. I have a similar Series II and decided that it just fits me best so offering this bass up. These Alembic 5s with this body style etc are some of the best basses out there.

This bass and the series II are both amazing. This kinda spec Alembic balanced K 5s are the best 5s I’ve ever had. Alembic the final frontier for me!

GORGEOUS. great bass!! Have you ever played a Rogue or Europa? how different are the "tones" and is it truly unfair to compare those (really nice) Alembics to the Signature Standard Balance K which to me, seems like an instrument at a higher level in terms of look, build aesthetic, electronics. just curious as I am considering purchasing my first Alembic and would love your opinion on this.

Agree. These recent balanced K models are just timeless and elegant in their design. Even non bass players like my wife and daughter comment how stunning they look (first basses they have ever complimented on looks lol )

They perfectly balance sitting and standing. This has a thin comfort taper neck which I prefer greatly over the standard alembic necks. The signature electronics are the closest to the series electronics imo. So independent filters for each pickup lets you dial in more traditional fender like p and j tones or dime everything for full modern clear alembic tone. It has the silver encased led amber fret markers which look cool but also highly useful on dark stages. My series ii I got new is also a banceled k with same dimensions. I'm just not a fan of the rogue and europa looks/design wise or any other alembic models. I have had just about every kinda boutique bass under the sun (foderas, smiths, mtds, etc etc)and these recent balanced k alembics are my favorite, especially if your looking for a 5. Low B is tight and defined. And it's still 34 scale. So going from an old fender to this bass feels easy. Pickup spacing is perfect for tone versility.

Body wood is real deal Honduran mahogany which is the best hog ime for the rich mids hog is known for. None of the other builders like fodera, mtd etc use this anymore, they use alternates like African hog etc.

HOG? that is over my head lol.... not sure what you are referring to. I also must ask, this is the same bass as one which sold around August last year? link here:
SOLD - 2012 Alembic Signature Standard 5 String

It looks SO similar and those pics are probably better ha! (sorry... im a photographer by trade)
no biggie because as I am now learning, people buy/sell/trade these yearly ....
But as an FYI, this is a gift for my son (a very very special gift, obviously) as his college graduation present and rest assured, this will be a keeper.
Bummed to hear that you don't like the Rogue shape, as I felt it looked "younger" ironically, and my son is in mis mid-twenties. But you are 100% right, THIS is the shape of the brand and that cutout (omega??) is so indicative of the brand.

Yes. Same bass. It’s stellar. I’d keep it if I didn’t have the SII which I got new. I picked it up to see how it compared to my series. It has a more direct tone being solid body. Series are semi hollow. I concluded I could love both of them but since I bought the SII new it feels like mine and I’d take a big loss selling. But they both feel surprisingly similar.

“Hog” is my short for mahogany

new a mark king coco 5 is around $15k street so a lot of bass for $8400 out the door. My SII was near 30k! Lol
