Details

Fender 2012 American Standard Precision 5. Candy Cola body and rosewood fretboard. This bass was assembled from two separate 2012 Fender American Standard P5s. The original bridge was replaced with a Hipshot “A” Fender Mount bridge. No additional holes were drilled. The strap buttons have been upgraded to Dunlop Dual Design locks. Neck has a full pocket shim that was made by Ardent Instruments here in Bloomington, IN. The shim may no longer be necessary for low action if you switch back to a Fender bridge.

Weight: 9.25 lbs.

Bass is in very good shape. There is a small mark near the bridge (see close up bridge pic).

Fender TSA case included, however, I do not have the case candy. I will include a Bondhus T-handle truss rod wrench that is the correct size (3/16"). Bass is currently strung with either Dunlop Bright Nickels (40-120) or S.I.T Foundations Nickel (40-120)--sorry, I can't remember which.

I have a Yamaha TRB1006 six string bass that has been waiting for someone to pick it up more often! Is that something you might be interested in trading for? It’s a lot of bass guitar. I could sweeten the deal if you’re interested?

Hi,

Your name makes me want to reread Lord of the Rings!

Nice bass. Thanks for the offer, but I’m going to pass.

Best,

Anthony

This is definitely a great looking bass, for sure a parts bass as the Candy Cola would have had a maple board (I prefer rosewood). Just curious how confident you are this is a Fender body and not a Squier VM PV - my old Candy Cola PV had a metallic finish and this doesn't look like it has that. This is the thing I always wanted to build with my old bass!

Hi,

The body is string through with ferrules, so not Squier as far as I can tell. When I bought the bass it was not sold as having been assembled from two different American Standard P Vs. I do agree that it is possible given that the combination of a Candy Cola P5 with rosewood board does not appear in the 2012 Fender catalog. It does appear Fender did offer an American Standard P4 in Candy Cola with a rosewood board in 2012. I honestly don’t know if this bass was a mix-up at the factory, a special order, or if the neck is from one bass and the body from another. If anyone knows a good way to check I’m all ears.

Thanks.

Okay. I just used Fender's Serial Number Lookup tool to check out what popped up when I entered the serial number from the back of the headstock. This is what it came back with:

Fender Precision V.JPG

If this is correct, then the bass is, in fact, a Fender "parts" bass as the original body, according to the lookup tool, is 3-color sunburst.

Hope this is helpful.

Yes, I had bought the bass as shown from a TB’er who had sold me the original sunburst body too (I still have that) — he had moved the neck from the sunburst one onto this one, upgraded the bridge, replaced the pickguard, etc. Fender USA body and neck for sure.

Don’t ask how I owned three USA 2012 P-5 basses at that time (I still have two of them). Buyer asked if I had original white pickguard — I included one as part of the deal — didn’t come with the bass I had purchased, but was same year as bass and neck.

I loved and babied that red bass and very dark rosewood board — striking — just didn’t need three of the same basses…
