Looks like an American Standard

This looks Mexican to me...Truss rod access in head...and cheaper tuning gears

Headstock looks a bit off for a Fender...

bass looks off to me. if it was american the headstock should say made in USA, and the truss rod access point and knobs imply maybe a mexican body?

First and foremost, my condolences on your loss.

Unfortunately, this bass is not an American Vintage Precision. It's an absolutely beautiful bass, but it appears to have a Fender Standard or Player neck on it (ie. Made in Mexico). The body may also be a Standard or Player that has been modified to included chrome covers, mint pickguard, and a tug bar. If you are willing to share the serial number, which is likely on the back of the headstock, then the Talkbass collective can help out with the model and year of the bass.

In any event, that is a sweet looking bass! Good luck with the sale.
